Our Mission:

Project Resume is dedicated to
supporting the career success of medical coders through resumes and professional development education

A message from the owner:

When I began the Project Resume, I was working as a medical coding hiring manager and recruiter.  I reviewed resumes from so many coders who had endless potential.  Unfortunately, that potential was impeded by resumes with poor grammar and spelling mistakes, and interviews that included one candidate who loudly chewed gum the entire time, to another who wore beach flip flops to our meeting.  It quickly became clear to me that there was little guidance available to medical coders regarding career development and professionalism.  I set out to fix that, and that’s why I began Project Resume.  We believe that the manner in which coders conduct themselves in the job field is just as important as the education they receive in preparation for their certification exam.  To create our resumes, we spoke to HR representatives and recruiters to find out what they want to see, and the most effective formatting.  To create our content, we put to use our 20 years of experience, and we are constantly adding to our knowledge center to provide the most beneficial education to prepare coders to present themselves as professional, capable employees.

OUR TEAM:

ANN BARNABY, OWNER, MANAGING DIRECTOR

Ann began her journey in the healthcare and coding environment in her study of Health Policy and Administration as a student at The Pennsylvania State University.  She was a member of the Phi Gamma Nu business fraternity, and remains active in the fraternity today, mentoring current members, and speaking to current students.  Ann used her Bachelor of Science degree to drive a career in medical coding and billing, and eventually involvement in recruiting, training and management of medical coding teams.  She has managed large teams for a multi-million-dollar corporation, and has educated providers and coders at a large teaching hospital, among other ventures and enterprises.  Ann has been an active member of the AAPC since 2005, when she became a Certified Professional Coder (CPC).  She’s also earned her Certified Risk Coder (CRC) certification through the AAPC.  Ann’s desire to help coders to career success was the driving force behind the creation of Project Resume, and that desire grows with every success story!

Jacob Swartzwelder, development consultant

Jacob got his start in coding like many coders at the time, when the office manager of the Family Medicine practice he was doing some administrative work for threw a CPT book at him and identified him as their new coder! He ran with the career, working both for well-known hospitals in Virginia, Tennessee, and Pennsylvania as well as international coding companies. Jacob specializes in Evaluation and Management (E/M) auditing as well has Risk Adjustment coding. Jacob has maintained a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification with the AAPC since 2010 and later went on to achieve his Certified Evaluation and Management Coder (CEMC) and Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) certifications. Jacob enjoys mentoring coders through excellent leadership and hands on training. Jacob’s commitment to his peer’s success and advancement make him a perfect resource to Project Resume.

Lea Setegn, communications consultant

Lea comes to medical coding from a different starting point: journalism and communications. After 15-plus years working as a reporter, editor, human resources assistant, communications associate, and public relations director, Lea was ready to explore a new career. Medical coding seemed to be a natural fit with Lea’s lifelong fascination with medical procedures and her love of reading, researching and abstracting. Four years after obtaining her Certified Professional Coder certification, Lea is happy to say that she loves coding. She has spent her coding career working for an academic healthcare system as a professional fee coder. Then the opportunity presented itself to bring her two careers together into one role at Project Resume, and she jumped at the chance! Lea’s goal is to help coders see what they have to offer, then convey that through their resumes and job interviews.
